How do I register to bid for auctions hosted on Auction News?

These FAQ's are published ahead of our Online Bidding going live in January 2020

You will need to register your details with us to bid at an auction. It’s really simple – 

  1. Sign in to your account or create one if you haven’t already done so.
  2. On the Lot Detail page select  “Register to place bid” 
  3. Enter your details to complete registration

Please note - you will be asked for your credit/debit card details at this stage. This is so that we can verify your identity and protect ourselves and our auctioneers from fraud.

Auction News request that auctioneers verify all bidders who want to bid in their auction. Once your registration has been approved by the auctioneer, you will be able to start bidding.

Auction News does not host all auctions listed on our site. For auctions not hosted on Auction News, you will need to navigate to the auctioneers bidding platform to register. Select the “Go to Auction” button on the Auction Detail page and this will take you to the auctioneers bidding platform.

Why do you take my credit card details when I register to bid on

We do this to verify that our bidders are genuine prior joining an auction. By matching your card and address details we can verify your identity and help protect ourselves and our auctioneers from fraud. We will not take funds from your account, even in the event of you winning an auction as you will settle the bill directly with the auctioneer.

Why can I see a small transaction fee on my credit/debit card account?

When our card payment provider performs a security check on your card, you may notice a small (less than £1) pending transaction on your account when you check it online. This transaction is temporary and will disappear shortly after your card details have been verified.

Are my credit/debit card details secure with Auction News ?

Auction News do not store your card details and all credit and debit card data is encrypted before passing to our payment provider Stripe. We will never debit your card in the event of you winning an auction and your card details will not be passed on to any auctioneer or third party.

We are totally committed to keeping your card details safe and 100% compliant with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS) which we review and validate annually.

Our payments provider Stripe has been audited by an independent PCI Qualified Security Assessor (QSA) and is certified as a PCI Level 1 Service Provider - the most stringent level of certification available in the payments industry.

How do I know if I’ve been approved to bid on Auction News?

Auctioneers will often require bidders to be verified before they are allowed to bid in their auction. If so, on joining an auction your bidding status will be marked as “Pending”.  Upon approval by the auctioneer -  

  1. You will receive an email, which . Please note, this can take a little time. If you’re concerned that you haven’t been approved, please contact the auctioneer directly. 
  2. On the lot detail page the button will change from "Awaiting approval" to "Approved to Bid".
